The term SPECT scan is used mostly for the brain scanning which detects the comparative areas of the brain function and is most useful for determining areas of brain diminished function, and dementia and alzheimer disease; and also for sequelae of Stroke and brain trauma. The test is under 30 min and much less expensive than a PET scan or Functional MRI which also show these function patterns of the brain.
